Founded by Bernd Munsteiner in 1973, close to the famous gemstone town of Idar-Oberstein in Germany, the family of jewellers and stone cutters have been breaking away from traditional gemstone cutting, changing the way the shape of the raw material is used. Developing the concept of ‘negative cutting’, Bernd Munsteiner cut reflective facets into the stone, rather than on the stones surface, resulting in multiple reflections of shapes appearing suspended in the gemstone. The Munsteiner family are award winning for their designs, choosing their own path for gemstone design and cutting.
