A century of Gucci
Gucci jewellery is only one arm of the world-wide luxury icon.
Gucci was founded in Florence, Italy, in 1921 by businessman and fashion designer Guccio Gucci.
It is said that during World War Two the Gucci family continued working by making boots for the country’s infantry.
Once the war was over, the company expanded, opening stories in New York, London and beyond. Stars such as Elizabeth Taylor embraced the brand because of its high quality, craftsmanship and bold designs.
In 1972, the first Gucci watch was created and quickly became a classic. These coveted timepieces also form part of the new collection on offer at H L Brown.
Today Gucci still holds a world record for selling the most watches (one million units) within two years, with the Model 2000 in 1974.
