Our Sheffield jewellers’ team returns to the Master Cutler’s Challenge
This regional fundraising mission motivates businesses across the region. It hugely benefits the disadvantaged in society through the vital money it raises.
This year our team is gearing up for the challenge once again – and here’s why.
A sparkling fundraising event
This year, our Managing Director James Frampton is hosting a very special talk to raise money for the challenge. He will give the talk, entitled “Diamonds, the Journey from Creation to Shop Window”, on September 20th at Wentworth Woodhouse, from 2pm until 5pm.
Tickets for this exclusive event are limited to just 60 and as well as the unique insight from gemmologist Mr Frampton, they include an afternoon tea. Tickets are £45 each and all proceeds will go to the cause.

Innovative fundraising
The Master Cutler’s Challenge dates back to 2008, and is run by the 399-year-old The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.
It asks businesses to take £50 of seed funding for activities. Then the aim is to raise as much money from those activities as possible in a six month period.
In previous years organisations have held everything from gin tasting nights to sponsored head shaves to collect the funds.
This year’s Master Cutler, Dame Julie Ann Kenny, is only the second Lady Master Cutler in the company’s history. In recognition of this milestone, the theme for this year’s challenge is inclusivity and diversity.
And the cause chosen by Dame Kenny is one very close to her heart, the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust.
How this Sheffield jewellers got in gear
Previously H L Brown backed the challenge by getting in the saddle. And not on the road, but right here in our historic Sheffield jewellers’ showroom in the heart of the city centre!
In 2019 our dedicated team were tasked with cycling the equivalent distance of riding from Land’s End to John O’ Groats, a distance of 1,189 miles. They used exercise bikes donated by Pure Gym to reach double the distance in just 24 hours.
We were proud to raise more than £5,000 for the challenge at the time thanks to staff and friends of the store joining Store Manager Brett Heath and Assistant Manager Samantha Lockwood.
